Climate action measures
Reducing our climate impactAt Cauldron, we understand our unique planet needs protecting for us, for the wildlife living amongst us and for future generations. That’s why we have set our ambition to become a Net Zero business by 2040. This means we are working to minimise our greenhouse gas emissions from our manufacturing and supply chain and offset any residual emissions by supporting removal carbon offset projects (such as afforestation projects). This will enable Cauldron and our customers to make a difference with one tasty plant-based meal at a time.
EnergyRecently we have switched to 100% renewable electricity at our own site and by partnering with manufacturing partners with the same sustainability values as us, the whole Cauldron range is manufactured using renewable electricity! We are hoping to decarbonise our remaining energy sources in the coming years with new technology. Meanwhile we are also working to improve our energy efficiency, having reduced our relative energy use by 21% at our site between 2012 and 2020.
WasteOne-third of food produced globally is wasted, and this is a significant cause of carbon emissions. If food waste was a country, it would be the 3rd largest emitter! This is why we are working to reduce our waste during production, we reduced by 6% last year and are on track to reduce by 23% this year. We also work with FareShare to prevent food waste further down the supply chain.
PackagingOur packaging strategy prioritises food safety and sustainability. We are continually looking at ways to reduce our plastic use, incorporate more recycled materials, improve the recyclability, and explore alternatives to plastic. Currently, 97% of all packaging we source is recyclable, and 100% of our carboard is sustainable. By 2025 all our packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable.
