Climate action measures
Getting better!Sustainability and environmental protection have been important values of Hubert Burda Media's corporate strategy since the 1990s. For years, many business units at Burda have been pursuing efforts to operate as ecologically sustainably as possible. Our aspiration is always to improve further: "We want to become better" is our company motto. So our efforts go above and beyond existing standards. Our aim is to accurately measure our various emissions and, through targeted actions, reduce and ideally prevent them wherever possible. Where this is not feasible, we compensate by investing in our partner's climate protection projects and, in doing so, in carbon neutrality – as we do with ClimatePartner!
Carbon FootprintSince 2019, we have calculated a detailed carbon footprint, depicting the greenhouse gas emissions of Hubert Burda Media with its 50 per cent holdings in Germany. The data was compiled according to the international standard, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. All types of emissions were taken into account – including indirect emissions caused by the daily work of all employees (e.g. electricity, mobility & food). We distinguish four types of emissions: Paper, Printing, Logistics Consumer Products, and Office. Learn more
ReductionBased on benchmarks & best practices, actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions were defined and introduced. Here, our focus lies on measures in the areas of energy, resources, mobility, and people. Additionally, we leverage our position as a media company to explain and educate our audiences about sustainability and climate protection. Knowledge building is a core priority to make our sustainability efforts successful. Learn more
CompensationWhile we are always taking steps to reduce our negative impact on the environment, many emissions – unfortunately – cannot be prevented completely as yet. This is where Burda's compensation strategy comes in: We are committed to offsetting the environmental damage caused by our emissions. To do so, we invest in two areas: regenerative farming and conventional CO2 certificates. We are convinced that combining these can have the biggest possible impact on our compensation program.
