A certified climate project combined with additional commitment

This combined project contributes to the financing of a certified climate project and additionally supports nature conservation in Germany. For every tonne of CO2 saved through the contribution via a certified climate project, a financial contribution flows into measures that enhance otherwise very species-poor agricultural areas. This is done, for example, by planting hedges or creating flower strips and ponds. This creates habitats for animals and plants as well as migration corridors that enable animals to move between different habitats.

Currently, the nature conservation is combined with a certified afforestation project in China (climatepartner.com/1508). It covers 43,600 ha of barren land where afforestation is taking place. Trees improve air quality and soil structure and prevent erosion.

Our additional commitment: a financial contribution for every tonne of CO2 reduced

With our combined project, we combine verified emission reductions through a certified climate project with an additional commitment to regional nature conservation. European ecosystems are also affected by climate change. Our regional nature conservation initiatives are therefore committed to preserving or restoring natural habitats and adapting them to climatic changes.

Possible project activities include the protection and conversion of native forests, the conservation of animal and plant biodiversity, peatland restoration, or the conversion of agricultural land. The certified climate project is registered with international standards.

Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Clean Water and SanitationIn the past, streams were often straightened and wetlands were drained. The project contributes to restoring straightened streams to their original meandering (i.e. winding) course and to creating more wetland areas such as ponds. This creates new habitats and protects and restores water-linked ecosystems.
Climate ActionMeasures such as planting hedges and flower strips increase biodiversity and create so-called ecological stepping stones. These enable animals to migrate between different habitats. The preservation of biodiversity is an essential prerequisite for success in climate action and adaptation to the consequences of climate change.
Life on LandThe hedges, orchards, flower strips, and ponds provide habitats, shelter, and food for many animals such as birds, rabbits, frogs, and various insects.
